Founded by Newport resident Casey O’Connor, Sean’s Pot of Gold provides people with the opportunity to donate towards an effort to supply hospitalized children across Orange County with gift baskets. These baskets will contain toys, stickers, hats, necklaces, and fun games with the aim of distracting children from doctors, medications, and the pains of being hospitalized.
“I know hospital stays can seem very long, so I hope Sean’s Pot of Gold can brighten their day!” Says Casey.
Last year the organization raised close to $3,000, with the goal this year sitting at $4,000. The organization would like to do something extra special this time around in supplying the older children with tablets.
Casey originally founded the organization in memory of her late brother, who passed away from neuroblastoma—a childhood cancer, aged six. She was nine years old, and felt like she had lost her best friend.
“I miss my brother very much. We were the best of friends growing up, and I often think about what type of person he would have become. I feel kids with cancer are very special, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to do something memorable for them.”
Originally, Sean’s Pot of Gold only delivered to Loma Linda Hospital, but as Sean was a patient at both Loma Linda and CHOC, four years ago the organization began delivering to both.
With the help of Arbor Real Estate agents, the organization has gradually gained momentum, and has now become a proud event in the community.
Casey’s family is very proud of the work she has been doing to raise awareness and continue the memory of her brother. “We are so proud that Casey keeps Sean’s memory alive through helping other children. Hospital stays for these children are often long and distressing, so this really helps to brighten their day.” Says Mary O’Connor.
The children range from 2-17 years old, and all proceeds will be collected by March 9th. There will be a wrapping party on March 12th at the office of Arbor Real Estate.
