Arbor Broker Matt Perry’s Success is Grounded in Simple Philosophy

Arbor Broker and Matt Perry

It’s 5:00 a.m. on a weekday morning. Most of the residents in the Upper Newport Bay and Eastside Costa Mesa are tucked in their beds — except perhaps the NAC rowers out on the bay — but Matt Perry’s day is already in high gear.

Perry likes to get the day started early, “My grandfather came to California on a boxcar and became a farmer.” He credits him for the way he lives and works today. “I live a farmer-type lifestyle — get up early, work hard,” he says. He remembers his grandfather telling him, “It takes a farmer’s shadow on the soil to make it grow and be successful.” Today, Perry’s “farm” is the Upper Newport and Eastside Costa Mesa where he has consistently represented more property owners than his competition.

His simple philosophy on life is a juxtaposition to the fast-paced lifestyle most associate with Orange County, but it has proven to be successful for him.

More than a year ago Perry decided to join Arbor Real Estate in Newport Beach. Since that move, he’s seen his business grow by 25%. “I’ve known the people at Arbor for a long time, and was drawn to how much they do in the community,” he says of why he came to Arbor. “One of my values is giving back. Arbor was doing that.” Perry says that coming to Arbor has enabled him to better separate himself from the competition and it’s paid off for him.

“Matt came to Arbor because he wanted us to help him set himself apart from other agents, ” says Kristin Barry, Arbor’s Broker of Record. “He’s boosted his business with the support of Arbor and continues to reign as a top broker in the Upper Newport Bay and Eastside Costa Mesa.”

Though he puts in a lot of hours on the job, he dedicates all his time when not working to his family. “I’m 100 % a husband and father before I’m a real estate broker. My wife and I have a 14 and 12-year-old and the way I look at it; we have six years until they go away to college, I’m not going to let the business get in my way of my real job as a dad.”

Perry says his early morning start with some form of rigorous exercise, laser-sharp focus during work hours and the support staff at Arbor allow him to get the job done and still be there for his family. “I believe my clients respect my dedication to work and family,” he says. “They know I’m a professional who puts my best into my work.”

Influenced by his years as a two-sport collegiate athlete and a member of a Division 1 National Championship team, Perry says that sports have helped him become the successful broker he is today. The tools he used to become a formidable competitor — studying the best, setting goals, perseverance, hard work — translated to a stellar career in real estate.

“Matt is one of the area’s top brokers, and it’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside him to help him grow his business,” says Chris Brigandi, Founder of Arbor Real Estate. “He is a true professional.”

Joining Arbor has awarded him one of his top years in the business. “It’s a direct result of the marketing team at Arbor,” says Perry. “Traditional marketing coupled with our social media support have helped me separate myself from other brokers. It’s made all the difference.”

Perry has a unique sales strategy that has helped him thrive in the changing market, “I like to do things that are out of the box because frankly there isn’t a box anymore. A lot of the focus is online, and that’s one of Arbor’s strengths.” With a good grasp of where the market is headed Perry only sees his business growing, “Now more than ever you need to position your property correctly and Arbor is helping me do that.” In 2017, Perry was fortunate to once again successfully represent more sellers in the Upper Newport Bay and Eastside Costa Mesa with over 30 closed transactions.

“We look forward to continuing to partner with Matt in 2018,” says Brigandi. “His dedication to his work, community, and family line up with Arbor’s core values and culture. We’re a perfect match.”
