Every where you look, there they are.
Magazines, TVs, on the Internet…but, what are they and why are we seeing them so much?
To simplify it, any combination of characters led by a hash symbol (#) is a hashtag, and any hashtag, if promoted by enough individuals, can “trend” and attract more individual users to discussion using the hashtag.
Hashtags are neither registered nor controlled by any one user or group of users, and neither can they be “retired” from public usage, meaning that hashtags can be used in theoretical perpetuity depending upon the longevity of the word or set of characters in a written language. They function as beacons in order for users to find and “follow” (subscribe) or “list” (organize into public contact lists) other users of similar interest.
This occurs most on social media platforms like Twitter or Instagram.
So, if you’re looking for #homes in #newportbeach, you can search those Hashtags in whichever platform you choose…and #bam, there is every post and/or photo that relates to those topics.
Most likely, you will find images of homes in Newport Beach.
Of course, the Hashtag has evolved into our everyday vernacular and their informal use has spread with no intent to actually categorize the message for later searching, sharing, or other reasons.
This can help express humor, excitement, sadness or other contextual cues, for example, “Another day at work rather than surfing!! #excited #notstoked”.
At Arbor, we use #WeAreNewport
It best represents who we are and how passionately we feel about this special place we call home.
Our hope is that our posts will not only inform followers about our properties but about local stories and people that help weave the fabric of our community.

It’s really a pretty cool way to cut thru the clutter once you get the hang of it.
Now, get out there and start impressing your friends and family with some hashtags.
And go ahead, use #WeAreNewport
You never know, we might feature your post and send you a #killer hat for sharing the #love.
Thanks!
